About Carlisle Meeting

The present Friends Meeting in Carlisle had its origins in the late 1970s when several Quaker families moved to town. There was also a Quaker worship group in Perry County which had been meeting regularly for worship since December 1978.  In the Fall of 1979, Friends of the Carlisle area, joined by Friends in Perry County, began to meet in each others homes for evening gatherings for worship and discussions. In September of 1980, Friends began to meet for worship on the first Sunday of the month on the campus of Dickinson College. A year later, on the first Sunday in September of 1981, Friends began meeting every First Day (Sunday) morning. In March of 1988, Carlisle Friends chose to join with Warrington Quarterly and Baltimore Yearly Meeting. Carlisle Monthly Meeting moved to its present meetinghouse in 1993.
